Since October 2016, 7 NBA Academies have been launched in 5 countries around the world, Canberra, Australia; Jinan, Urumqi and Zhuji, China; Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), India; Mexico City, Mexico; and Saly, Senegal.

The NBA Academy in Africa (Senegal)

Since The NBA Academy Africa opened in May 2017, 24 elite male prospects (ages 14-20) have received scholarships and training after scouting programs conducted with local federations across the continent. The NBA Academy Africa has participated in international tournaments and exhibition games in Australia, Europe and the United States. The first NBA Academy Africa Women’s camp was held in May in Dakar.

Marouf Moumine, a young basketball player from Alph Basketball Yaounde Cameroon just joins the NBA Academy in Senegal after been honoured with a Determination Award at the 2018 NBA World Championship in Orlando, USA. This academy is builds on the NBA’s existing basketball and youth development initiatives in Africa, including jr. NBA programs for boys and girls ages 16 and under.

The NBA Academy Africa in competition

Since November 8, and this until November 11, prospects from The NBA Academy Africa, the NBA’s elite basketball training center in Senegal, traveled to Hungary to compete in European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) Stage 1, a U-20 tournament comprised of top teams from Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Hungary, Spain, Sweden and the UK. This will be the NBA Academy Africa’s first international competition of the season, and The NBA Academy Africa’s second trip to Europe for international competitions following their trip to Paris and Prague last December.

Prospect Player from Africa :

In October 2018, Patrick Mwamba (Democratic Republic of the Congo) became the first graduate of The NBA Academy Africa to commit to an NCAA Division 1 school. Another commitment was made by Jonathan Tchatchoua from The NBA Global Academy (Australia)— who stands a rock solid 6 feet 8 inches and 230 pounds — worked his way into becoming one of the first two academy products to sign with American schools. He committed to UNLV in May, choosing the Rebels over Gonzaga and St. John’s.



It is important to notice that, Basketball Without Borders, the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program, has been held in Africa 16 times, with 10 former BWB Africa campers drafted into the NBA. we can also talk about
